XCELERON NAMED YORKSHIRE BUSINESS OF THE YEAR
Company wins three business awards in one month
York, UK and Gaithersburg, MD, USA, November 21, 2007 – Xceleron, the global leader in delivering the earliest most relevant insights to make smarter drug development decisions beat hundreds of competitors to become The York Press Business of the Year 2007, the ultimate benchmark of entrepreneurial excellence in the Yorkshire region.
The York-based company, which uses its in-house technology and knowhow to help pharmaceutical companies speed up their drug development process, also came first in the Science & Technology category. The win comes less than a month after Xceleron scooped ‘Best University Spin-Out’ at the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business awards.
This year’s Business of the Year awards was the biggest and most competitive in the event’s 17-year history. Xceleron was praised at The York Press awards ceremony, which was attended by 300 people, as the ‘destination of choice for pharmaceutical companies keen to save millions of pounds by reducing the length of their clinical trials’.
In October, Xceleron received its Excellence in Business Award from the Shadow Foreign Secretary and MP, William Hague, at a ceremony attended by 400 people. The Excellence awards are open to every company in Yorkshire, and attracted 50% more entries this year.
Mark Seymour, Xceleron’s Chief Study Director, said: “We feel very honoured to receive these awards which reflect our pioneering approaches to assist in the development of new life-saving medicines. Until two years ago, Xceleron was twelve people and now it is a global company with aspirations to become a world force.”
Xceleron employs 41 staff at its UK facility, and 6 at its Maryland office. The company has developed a number of novel approaches to conducting clinical trials including microdosing. This allows crucial information about the human response to drugs to be collected far earlier in the development process.
